A blue and white ceramic vase with ruffled edges, resembling a coral, sits against a plain background. It has a flowing, organic form.

How I Got Involved with the Heart Ball

Last year, I had the opportunity to donate one of my handmade ceramic pieces to the Greater Charlotte Heart Ball an annual fundraiser benefiting the American Heart Association. This sculptural vase was one of the many great items donated to be part of the event's auction, which ended up raising $700 for their cause. The American Heart Association works to advance research on heart disease and stroke, promote healthier lifestyles, and provide important heart health guidelines. They also organize public awareness initiatives and fundraising events to further their cause.

A friend mentioned that the Charlotte Heart Ball was coming up and that the organizers were looking for auction donations. I was not sure if they would be interested in pottery, especially a sculptural piece, but I reached out anyway to ask.

One of the event organizers asked to see photos of the piece along with a link to my website. She was wonderful to work with and genuinely excited about the work. She even came to my home to pick up the piece in person, which made the experience feel personal and collaborative rather than transactional.

The Handmade Process Behind the Piece

The piece I donated was handbuilt using stoneware clay, shaped slowly and intentionally without a wheel. I prefer a handbuilt approach because it allows the form to stay organic and slightly imperfect in a way that feels alive. After the initial bisque firing, the piece was glazed by hand using layered glazes that move and soften during the high fire.

It’s truly rewarding to see my piece appreciated and knowing that the money raised will support people affected by heart disease makes it even more meaningful. Giving back is something I’ve always been passionate about, whether it’s through my pottery or other means. I’m always seeking opportunities to contribute.

Continuing the Tradition in February 2026

This year, I was honored to donate another handmade ceramic sculpture platter to the Charlotte Heart Ball. Being able to support the event again felt like a natural continuation rather than a one time gesture. Giving back through my work is something I care deeply about, and supporting the Heart Ball for a second year reaffirmed why I choose to share my work beyond the studio.

Each donation reminds me that handmade pottery can carry meaning well beyond its form or function.

Looking Ahead and Giving Back

If you are involved with a nonprofit or local fundraiser in Charlotte North Carolina and are interested in raising funds through an auction, I would love to connect. Supporting meaningful causes through handmade ceramic art for charity is something I am always open to discussing.

If you would like to see more of my work, you are always welcome to browse the current collection, subscribe for new releases, or reach out directly. Every piece has a story, and sometimes that story extends far beyond the studio.
