I created this coil-built ceramic sculptural vessel with sweeping ruffled edges as a statement piece for those who see ceramics as fine art, not just functional decor. Working from high-quality stoneware clay, I built each wall coil by coil, shaping and blending by hand until the form rose into its own organic movement, with undulating edges that feel more like sea-worn driftwood than traditional pottery.
Measuring approximately 11 inches wide and 7 inches tall, it commands attention on a pedestal, console, or shelf, with a sturdy footed base that grounds its dramatic silhouette. After bisque firing, I hand-glazed every ridge in deep indigo blues and rich amber browns, then high-fired the piece for museum-quality strength and durability. Light moves differently across every curve, revealing a tactile, wave-carved surface inspired by tide pools and coastal erosion.
This built coil-built ceramic sculptural vessel with sweeping ruffled edges works as a Livingroom centerpiece, a dramatic tablescape accent, or a freestanding sculptural object for a collector's shelf. It pairs well with other pieces in my sculptural ceramic collection and appeals to serious collectors, designers, and stagers seeking a refined, one-of-a-kind handcrafted work.
Made in Charlotte, NC, this is a piece meant to be lived with and admired daily, an artful focal point that quietly commands any room.
