This handbuilt ivory ceramic vase with sculptural ruffled rim has a graceful, organic shape that reminds me of soft petals opening to the light. I built it by hand in my Charlotte, NC studio, starting with smooth stoneware clay that I shaped and curved until the edges seemed to move on their own. After bisque firing, I brushed on a soft ivory glaze that pools gently at the rim and reveals subtle, golden tones where the surface gathers. Standing about 9 inches tall and 7 inches wide, it’s just the right height for fresh blooms or to display as a sculptural accent on a console or bookshelf.
