here’s a moment I notice in almost every home where my work ends up. It’s not when the bowl is first unwrapped. It’s later, when it gets placed on the table and the room quietly adjusts around it. That shift is what keeps me coming back to this form. I’ve been making handmade ceramic centerpiece bowls for dining tables for years, not because they’re trendy, but because they solve something simple I keep seeing people look for: a functional object that still feels intentional.

When I think about the best ceramic bowls for entertaining, I think about how they actually get used. In my studio, I make bowls that move through a meal — from a large centerpiece holding fruit to medium pieces passed from hand to hand. Each one is shaped slowly from stoneware clay and glazed by hand, designed to feel natural on the table, not just look good on a shelf. These are the pieces that quietly bring a table together.

Meticulously Glazed

Each piece is individually glazed with multiple layers, allowing the colors, movement and natural variations of the glaze to develop during firing. The result is a finish that is unique to each piece and reflects the time and care that goes into Allison's ceramic work.
